I've recovered from my trip to Santa Clara, CA where I covered the Web 3.0 conference, recording interviews with many of the speakers, and a few of the participants. The experience went much better than I expected because of the cooperation of the hotel, the help of the Mediabistro / SemanticWeb.com staff, and the fact that every one of the speakers I had scheduled, showed up and was glad to participate.

Credit Where Credit is Due - Or Not PDF Print E-mail

Electronic banking is pretty much a staple of the millennium, right? And with that is the fact that it pretty much doesn't matter what time it is, or even what day it is. Swipe your debit card to make a purchase and microseconds later, the charge shows up reflected in your bank balance. Why then, is Bank of America's HSA service unable to transact on Saturdays or Sundays? And why, if they can't do they not advise us of the fact?

I'm packed and waiting to leave for the San Jose Airport for the grueling return trip (12+ hours ground to ground). This week I recorded 15 video interviews over 2 days. The session was, in fact, my first attempt at conducting this volume in such a short time. And it was pretty ambitious (for me at least) because my setup was a 3 camera studio with keylighting. I have it all in one suitcase and one backpack - and that includes my clothes.

This trip (Greensboro, NC to Santa Clara and back) has made me a believer in the iPass service - again. If you travel even a little bit, you know the issues involved in connecting to the variety of internet access systems in the different locations you find yourself. This week I've been in 4 airports, a hotel with 3 different internet providers in different areas, and a coffee shop. In all those landing spots I was able to connect without entering a password, providing my credit card, or even signing on to a free account. iPass took care of finding the available networks, connecting, and logging in. Not quite magic, but close enough for me.

I've done plenty of interviews in my career. I've migrated from phone interviews that I've either incorporated into articles, to fairly straight transcriptions - also delivered as text. About 3 years ago, I started recording video interviews, mostly at trade shows. Next week I'll be recording more formally set interviews at the Web3.0 conference in Santa Clara, CA. and this will be a departure from my earlier experiences.
