I've been working with two application 'helpers' that analyze what you're writing and help you to add related content to blog posts (like this one) or to email. The first one is Zemanta, and the other is Apture. Both use semantic technologies to understand what you're writing, then search the web for related content, then present it to you for inclusion in your posts. So they are similar, but decidedly different in several ways.

In this post, I'm using the Zemanta plugin for Joomla!. There are Zemanta plugins for most blogging platforms, so whatever you're using, you're likely to find a plugin that you can use. Most of them do require admin access to your publishing platform, but if you're the admin, it shouldn't be a problem. 

How it works - 

Zemanta takes the text you're writing in the editor and uses semantic techniques to figure out what you're writing about. Then it presents what it believes to be related content (images, articles, and links) in a series of boxes alongside your article. For example, if I want to talk about Charlotte, NC, Zemanta finds specific resources that are pertinent to Charlotte. But the more specific I get, for instance if I mention the Bobcats, Zemanta looks up the specific name and presents me with a variety of images, links and other things that I can add to illustrate my post.-- or at least that's what's supposed to happen.

Unfortunately the plugin I'm using in Joomla isn't really doing what I expect. I continue to get the same set of images (some related- but most not) and a bunch of related article links (as you see below) and some linkable connections at the bottom (the linked words on this page came from there).
